The Road to Glenlough Christy Gillespie, our Irish correspondent, has written a beautiful and important book about the valley of Glenlough, where Kent lived in 1926. His website contains information about the book and how to purchase
“A Road to Peace and Freedom” at the Library of Congress. Kent was a long-time president of the International Workers Order. This link leads to the Library of Congress website for a free download of a copy of the e-Book about the IWO during the years 1930-1954.
Glencolumkille Folk Village. This thatched-roof replica of a rural village in Ireland’s most north westerly county offers a glimpse into daily life as it was during past centuries. Kent lived in Glencolumkille during his time in Ireland. The Folk Village acquired a Kent drawing in 2019 and it holds pride of place in the Tea Room.
Design into Art With Ralston Crawford and Rockwell Kent. Podcast presented by Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Bentonville, Arkansas. Director of Curatorial David Houston describes the graphic backgrounds and interests of artists like Crawford and Kent while Graphic Designer Anna Vernon gives a designer’s perspective on each artwork.
Nantucket Historical Association Moby Dick lecture. University of Illinois professor Jamie Jones talked about Rockwell Kent’s life, detailed his technique on the “Moby-Dick” illustrations, and discussed the meaning he intended his style to evoke. This event took place at the Quaker Meeting House in Nantucket, Massachusetts, presented by the Nantucket Historical Association.
Art Matters Lecture. Professor Justin Wolff, presented by the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Santa Barbara, California. Features the End of the World Series by Kent.
Ohio State University Yearbook 1934. The 1934 volume of Makio, the OSU Yearbook, features illustrations by Kent. The website has a link to a fully digitized copy of the yearbook, including the Kent Illustrations. We thank our friend Mark B. Schlemmer for this tip.
